The Traditional Tea Ceremony

The Soleminzation

Food was served buffet style once the solemnization was over. The band started playing Rock and Roll all night, along with some crowd-pleasing favourites.

it's a pity you can't see the boutonnieres i made for the musicians here. silly me didn't take any picture of them as well!

my father-in-law + his food + music = a belly happy man

my brother with his teddy boy look

We also have tables indoor for guests who prefer the comfy air-conditioning

the indoor area was also where we had our Photo Booth to take silly pictures in

to see more of the pictures taken at our Photo booth, check out part 1 of the album by clicking on the picture!

i think they are a pretty sweet couple, don't you think?

with my batchgirls

and then we were 'encouraged' to have our first dance, unscripted, unplanned for and unavoidable

We danced to the music that our friend Tze wrote for our wedding, following my strict requirement. The same score (different version) was played for my march-in.

we are... not very good dancers

then my brillianceness suggested that we should get friends up and dance with us

thus begin the 'finger-pointing' and 'name-calling'

there are some who obviously have it in them to shake and rattle..

others just have more creative styles and flair than I expected

my father-in-law was so 'high' playing the music that he almost took over the percussions by abandoning his piano and started playing with the sticks, undoubtably leaving the original percussionist little Bryan perplexed

The band that kept our energy up! I wish i got a recording of the songs they played that night

In the midst of me running around trying to get people to the dance floor and creating bubbly atmosphere, literally, I missed much of the dancing and it ended all too soon for me. i was having so much fun!

i had to vent

while the dancing may have stopped, the guinness gang has set up a drinking post for stefan

i joined in some times

but i love my wedding because i get to mingle with different groups of friends...

... get my pictures taken with my budz...

... and get fed by Ching who made sure i have food throughout the evening

i also had time to sit back and listen to my new hubby's thank-you speech

and that's me making a curtsy when my name got mentioned in the speech for crafting the wedding

the rest of the evening was spent having way too much fun posing for pictures, in and out of the photo booth

and discovering who chicken little is a carbon-copy of

here's to the new mr and mrs see who just tied the knot on 26th Dec! you two are great together, may the 2 of you stay best friends forever and eternally bound in marital bliss!

And then we ran off into the sunset and lived happily ever after.

Though it doesn’t stop here! Photos from the Photo Booth will be next, this will be a brand new batch, see you here next year!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

wedding day pictures – the solemnization

Hi friends!

This is going to be a long one! If you haven’t seen the pictures taken before this solemnization, please check out the links below!

The preparation

The Gate Crash

The Traditional Tea Ceremony

After some photo taking at the hotel, we took off in 3 cars to Toucan Irish Pub at Duxton Hill. I wanted only Baby’s Breath and Anna from Spellbound Weddings, along with Ellie, took care of all that flower arrangement for us! She also took my scrappy DIYs and displayed them in manners that far exceeded my expectations.

our reception table

our pretty receptionist!

cute signage by Anna!

On that little tree by the left is where we hung pictures of both of us, instead of printing them out on a photo book

one of our favourite photos out of the 20ish we picked out from our travels and engagement shoot. click on the picture to see some of the engagement pictures we took ourselves!

the wedding favors - click on the picture for these tutorial!

L.O.V.E.

little turquoise guitars and ribbons on doilies and hanging tealights

the aisle to the altar, lined with lotsa Baby's Breath

I had 8 of these little bubble bottles to be used as confetti after the ceremony. Note to everybody, you need more bottles than that! click on picture to see my notes on confettis!

Rock n' Roll is not dead - because for that one day, it's the 50s and the events that led to the song American Pie has not happened yet

I'm so glad I found these shoes, special thanks to Ching! Though if anyone of you out there is having an outdoor wedding, please buy those heel protectors. I had our initials lined out with crystals underneath the shoes, those along with the heels are knackered by the time the evening was over. click on the picture to see the one thing I should had gotten for the heels before the wedding but didn't and am now realy regretting that decision

You know I'm really happy when my smile turns into a grimace and all the facial lines and muscles are pushed into slight aesthetically-uncomfortable positions

You know I'm ecstatic when I start to guffaw with those MGM lion roar

the bridesmaid and the best man!

this and the next 2 pictures were taken during our brief rehearsal

while guests are arriving, I was off to do some last-min touch ups, redo my hair piece and attach the birdcage veil. Guests were encouraged to take photos at the photo booth we set up. We thought we prepared enough props for the photo booth - fun retro eyewears, blackboards and markers.. etc. Anna surprised us with more eyewears and a couple of boas. Isn't that service excellence or what!

the backdrop for our photo booth with the poster I did myself.. colour came out wrong actually but since it was already printed, it will be a shame for me to waste it just because of a slight off with the colours.. click picture to see part 1 of the pictures we took at the photobooth!

... and so begins the wedding solemization. leon our best man with anna our wonderful decorator

leon looking more tense than the groom

my mum walked me down the aisle to the music "In Time Love Comes" specially composed by our friend Tze. To listen to our march-in song, click on the picture!

Note to all future grooms, please say " I do" to your bride, not to the Pastor nor the Justice of Peace. For clarification, he did say that to my face, this is an example of how it would look like if you forgot

stefan repeating his vows to me, mostly about how I irritated the hell out of him

i stuck with the safer choice of for better or for worse

it's comforting to see that I'm not the only one with double chin

thanks to all my 'bubble generators'!

an oh-so-sweet and beautiful poem written for us by our friend Ganesh... fitting for this picture 'cause he's in it!

and then it was time for the bouquet tossing

it took me at least 3 tries to get the toss right. the first few times stefan was always there to catch my stray-flying bouquet

and Ellie was the lucky girl who caught the bouquet!

More pictures from that evening coming up next!

I’d love to hear from you, please drop some comments!

Lotsa love & hugs,

Pat

wedding day pictures – the traditional tea ceremony

Part 3 of our wedding day picture!

wedding day pictures – the preparation

wedding day pictures – the gatecrash

I’m gonna start where my last picture left off.

here's a decent shot of my hair from the back! Specially created by MUA Gin Tan when I told her about our 50s theme. Hairstylist Max also did a excellent job with Stefan's hair recreating he look from that era!

my house husband! nope, that's not a kilt, it's an apron!

nice picture of stefan's dad!

my mum looks like she's stealing the oranges..

showing me the message on his nails, at this point i didn't know that was the best one yet, if you have been reading previous posts and know what i mean.....

that's how men show off their manicured nails, instead of lengthening the overall effects, they chose to look short and stubby

I just couldn't resist that, i thought he was incredibly cute and dashing with that hair.. probably it was all that glitters

ma-ma approves of his grandson's appropriate hair

even my mum was fascinated

she seems very pleased with it as well!

notice tha more grown-up" version of the pinwheel corsage I made for her on her wrist ( the one with the pearls) and also the cuter ones I made for the girls shown at the corner of that previous picture before this?

the tea ceremony proper. it was a simple affair with only stefan's grandma, his dad and my mum

back in the early days of planning, we weren't even gonna have this tea ceremony in because we wanted just a simple wedding but we realised it's only proper and respectful for the people who have raised us up

... and I'm glad we have it, not because of the extra jewelery i get nor the funny tea set I get to use, but because utimately, as much as a wedding is between a couple, it is also the joining of two families and the families' bearing witness to their children starting a new one of their own

I love this moment between father, his son and God

stefan was instigating that I call his dad "luo-ye" in cantonese from then on, loosely translated as "old master of the house)"

in case you're wondering, the tea is a special 'blend' my mum brought that involves dried longans and other auspicious ingredients that chinese used to represent certain blessings for the couple

with my 2 brothers

with my new family

with my lovely girls - some of the closest people in my life and the best anybody could be blessed with

the guys

That marks the last picture I have of the first part of the morning at the hotel! Next in line, happily ever after…

Please come back again for more pictures at our solemnization ceremony!

season’s greetings, my hearties!

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.

Merry Christmas, one and all! This weekend is filled with weddings, I’ll continue to post the rest of the pictures from my wedding day once all the merry-making are done. I figured everyone will be out somewhere celebrating anyways.

be safe!

XOXO

wedding day pictures – the gatecrash

Thank you for coming back! This is a continuation of my last post, if you haven’t seen it yet, click here!

So Stefan arrives at the hotel with only one brave man behind him to come face-to-face with the girls, who weren’t going to let the both of them into the bridal suite easily.

money was given to "bribe" the gatekeepers

Remember happy bun?

"bribe" was deemed unacceptable

best man. breaking out in cold sweat.

he's not spared either

... his victory stance?

see? my girls are angels!

.. obviously that little wasabi feast was not enough to ward off the girls' requests!

at this point, I could only hear what's going on outside through the bedroom door (and a secret sliding wall). I was supposed to get "live" feed from Cindy via iphone, apparently the videos and pictures got lost in transition and didn't get to me till much later... that didn't stop the rest of us in the room from trying to laugh out loud simply from guessing what we were hearing!

Next, Stefan was given the task to write a message to me on his nails using violety-pink nail polish. one letter per nail and it extends to all the nails both the boys have. here in this short notice, our dear friend here can come out with something that I'd rather have inscribed on my wedding band. to read more, click on picture to find out what IS on my wedding band now

enlisting his brother's help

read from right to left. it says "2∞NBeyond"

next, we shall see how "crafty" he can be. he's asked to make an apron out of the fabric, edgings and mini sewing kit he was given. Click pictures to read previous post to find out why!

according to sources, he simply ripped two holes out using the oh-so-cute-and-mini scissors and pulled the edgings through them. Less than 2 min. You know it's horrible by the look of Elsa's face

Presenting the stuff of lousy craft work as narrated by dear cindy ( one of the “live” feeds that I was supposed to watch live then):

after the 3 simple tasks were done (he was let off pretty easy), the girls got permission to open the bedroom door, only to confuse the 2 boys with 2 other doors inside. They were asked to guess which door leads to the inside of the bedroom and if they guessed correctly, they would be allowed entry.

truth is, none of the doors led to the bedroom entrance. One opens to the toilet and the other to the shower room. This hotel comes with a sneaky sliding wall that hides the main bedroom away from view, but the boys didn't know that and were asked to "top up". To think they were so disorientated that they thought another door along the very same corridor they were at is The room.

you can tell by that face how miserable the "top up" was.

Eventually though, the boys were told to turn around, while the secret door was opened by me inside.

Next, Stefan steps into the room, to be continued in the next post!

wedding day pictures – the preparations

It’s a helluva start, being able to recognize what makes you happy.
{ Lucille Ball }

Here they are, pictures from my actual day wedding! Because there are so many I wanna share, I’m gonna split them into a few days’ worth of posts. For a start, these are from the early afternoon when the girls are getting ready for the groom and his unfortunate best man to arrive for the gatecrashing. Note, early afternoon. Mornings are really not for me.

you can't see them here, but there are little gemstones around the skirt.

my mismatched tea set for the traditional tea ceremony

ring bearer waiting for the wedding bands to meet each other for the first time

I get really squeamish when it comes to make-up on the eyes... imagine that artful chunk I had on.

elsa's a stunner!

the pinwheel corsage I made for the girls, my mum has a more "grown-up" version. The guys and the musicians got little guitars for their boutonnières = ROCK n ROLL (pinwheels), ta-da my wedding theme!

I was alittle worried that my DIY hair fascinator isn't gonna work. I had no backups! But it did!

my crash course to learn how to put on my DIY birdcage veil by myself later before the wedding ceremony

I'm partially resigned to the fact that the lines under my eyes are here to stay no matter how good the makeup artist is.

with Makeup Artist Gin Tan

the weapon of torture

The porkfloss bun is my idea because I hate it that Stefan has it for breakfast almost EVERY morning! At least now, he remembers the wasabi first before he goes into BreadTalk and gets one of this again.

artist at work

another happy accomplice

it's a happy bun

Ours is a 50s Rock and Roll wedding, but this is not the 50s era we're living in! Instead of the stereotype housewife who cooks and washes with perfectly primped hair and lipstick, this was a test for Stefan to demonstrate how good (-looking) a house husband should look like today. So one of the gate-crashing task he has to perform is to make a pretty apron out of these!

You do need a friend in life to help you figure out how to unclasp and secure those pesky bracelet clips

.. and another to help you reach places that you can't reach yourself.

Next up, the groom arrives!

You will want to see these next few pictures. Please come back again!

closer

They do not kiss
but they both want to
instead their feet touch and so do their arms
it is electric magic
their tiny arm hairs tingling
happily lying together
the sun warming them
watching sky through green-leafed gum branch
close enough to hear each other breathe
sweet togetherness
this lazy lying down dance of love

1} IMM Living Gnome Container from Urban Outfitters. I don’t know what is it about me and gnomes.

2} Chanel Metal-and-Strass Pearl Earrings.

3 – 4} Tiffany’s Charms. I couldn’t decide which is more meaningful to add to my bracelet’s collection this year… a love lock ( ahem, I got married) or the scooter for my upcoming honeymoon

5} Bvlgari Japanese Edition ring. Yes, I’m that greedy to ask for one more.

6} Lomography Spinner 360° 35mm camera. The extra weight to carry in my travel pack during my honeymoon will be worth it!
