the irony of looking forward

” Don’t Look Back” by She & Him.

After some frustrating and despairing house hunts and an unsuccessful furniture-purchase attempt yesterday, I am looking forward and dreaming of what-can-bes.

HiLLjO i guess my patronage is appreciated? haha… it’s a nice touch ūüôā

honeymoon day 22, i wish you doggies well

day 22.

Leaving Santorini on this day.

Dog No. 1 came back.

we took our breakfast outside, and shared them with the dogs that we have grown really fond of.

this makes me wonder, what life is like for the animals on this island - living life like a vagabond, not knowing what each day brings nor who they are going to meet. Each day IS a gift, no matter which way you look at it.

Dog No. 1, 2 and 3 walked with us out to the carpark to send us off. Dog No. 2 and 3 were fast friends, poor Dog No. 1 feels left out, sounding out her protests and jealousy by barking at the 2 playmates every once in a while.

Dog No. 2 has a special place in my heart and it still tugs at my heart to say goodbye to her. I didn't blame her at all when the moment our mini van drove away, she and Dog No. 3 spotted 2 other tourists metres away and started running to them. (Those 2 girls must had been scared to see 2 grown dogs running toward them) At least the dogs had waited till the engine started, like they knew somehow, that this is goodbye and we needed a proper farewell.

Santorini (Thira) National Airport

boarding the plane. I love how this no-fuss, aero-bridgeless boarding seems to carry back the Romance of Travel.

flying into Athens. - Do you ever get tired of the aerial view from planes? I'm still fascinated after all these while.

This image will feel like a big jump in time, because it is. The day after the planeride was a combination of different transportation rides. We took the subway back into Athens city, collected our left luggage from our previous accommodation, hopped on a bus and got lost for a while looking for the main train station. After that it was a long uninspired train ride where I doubted myself if we got on the right train because it was hours and hours of darkness outside and the journey took longer than expected.

No one speaks English and everything is in Greek and appeared outdated. The train we were on arrived way too late. I was sure the connecting train left, but I wasn't sure if there was any arrangement for anoter connecting train. (The train station was smacked in the middle of nowhere... or maybe it was too dark to make out anything... ) Not knowing what we were waiting for, we just kept on waiting anyways. That was really all we can do!

Well, then we managed to arrive… into METEORA!

Once again, we didn’t expect how quiet the little city would be, nor how misleading the directions to the guesthouse we booked really is. It says it’s just behind the train station, but from where we were, we really couldn’t tell. Long story short, it really was just behind the train station, just that we took the long way round where there are proper paved road. That seemed like the obvious thing to do. We just didn’t know then, that we were supposed to step onto the railway track, cross it in the dark and get to the back of station where the neighbourhood is.

I may seem like I’m complaining a lot, but i really enjoyed all the little ‘misfortunes’ and ‘unforeseen circumstances’. These are what made the trip OUR trip.

I don't know about you, but a proper dinner is really important to me no matter how tired I am

These were really not the best...

... but these were what I needed to properly end the day and look forward to the next, plotting the places where we can explore!

You can follow all the other days of our honeymoon here!  day 1 & 2 (Frankfurt), day 3 (Frankfurt & Switzerland), day 4 (Switzerland), day 5 (Switzerland), day 6 (Milan), day 7 (Padua & Venice), day 8 (Venice), day 9 (Venice & Florence), day 10 (Florence), day 11 & 12 (Florence), day 13 (Rome), day 14 (Rome), day 15 (Rome) , day 16 (Athens), day 17.1 (Athens), day 17.2 (Athens), day 18 (Athens), day 18 part 2 (Athens), day 19 ( Santorini ), day 20.1 ( Santorini ), day 20.2 (Santorini), day 21 (Santorini)

jillian m. {coffee, light and sweet} Well, we did want to bring her home! She’s so sweet! But I doubt that our warm Sunny Singapore weather is best for her! ūüė¶

Sarah We have never had animals like that following us around anywhere, ever! It was a pleasant surprise to have the lovely company. I’m extremely honored that the dogs chose us too! haha.

jaclyn @ thelateafternoon Yes! I think anyone who arrives into Santorini and not see the standard blues and whites will really be disappointed! – except that there is no way that would ever happen!

Margaret Hi! I hope you managed to get my message on your blog!!

Georgianna ūüôā I hope you enjoyed our little trip, Georginna!

our wedding day pictures – night shots

Hi lovelies! Welcome back! This will be my last post for the year 2010 and I’m ending it up with the last batch ( number 5 ) of my wedding pictures! Here are the links to previous posts if you’d missed them!

Our d.i.y. engagement shoot ( featured in The Wedding Chicks )

Our wedding was also featured in The Bride’s Cafe as well as a short interview on Hindsight Bride, do check them out!

The Gate Crash

The Traditional Tea Ceremony

The Soleminzation

Food was served buffet style once the solemnization was over. The band started playing Rock and Roll all night, along with some crowd-pleasing favourites.

it's a pity you can't see the boutonnieres i made for the musicians here. silly me didn't take any picture of them as well!

my father-in-law + his food + music = a belly happy man

my brother with his teddy boy look

We also have tables indoor for guests who prefer the comfy air-conditioning

the indoor area was also where we had our Photo Booth to take silly pictures in

to see more of the pictures taken at our Photo booth, check out part 1 of the album by clicking on the picture!

i think they are a pretty sweet couple, don't you think?

with my batchgirls

and then we were 'encouraged' to have our first dance, unscripted, unplanned for and unavoidable

We danced to the music that our friend Tze wrote for our wedding, following my strict requirement. The same score (different version) was played for my march-in.

we are... not very good dancers

then my brillianceness suggested that we should get friends up and dance with us

thus begin the 'finger-pointing' and 'name-calling'

there are some who obviously have it in them to shake and rattle..

others just have more creative styles and flair than I expected

my father-in-law was so 'high' playing the music that he almost took over the percussions by abandoning his piano and started playing with the sticks, undoubtably leaving the original percussionist little Bryan perplexed

The band that kept our energy up! I wish i got a recording of the songs they played that night

In the midst of me running around trying to get people to the dance floor and creating bubbly atmosphere, literally, I missed much of the dancing and it ended all too soon for me. i was having so much fun!

i had to vent

while the dancing may have stopped, the guinness gang has set up a drinking post for stefan

i joined in some times

but i love my wedding because i get to mingle with different groups of friends...

... get my pictures taken with my budz...

... and get fed by Ching who made sure i have food throughout the evening

i also had time to sit back and listen to my new hubby's thank-you speech

and that's me making a curtsy when my name got mentioned in the speech for crafting the wedding

the rest of the evening was spent having way too much fun posing for pictures, in and out of the photo booth

and discovering who chicken little is a carbon-copy of

here's to the new mr and mrs see who just tied the knot on 26th Dec! you two are great together, may the 2 of you stay best friends forever and eternally bound in marital bliss!

And then we ran off into the sunset and lived happily ever after.

Though it doesn’t stop here! Photos from the Photo Booth will be next, this will be a brand new batch, see you here next year!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

2010 vh1 divas salute the troops poster

I’m loving this poster.

taken from starpulse.com

Despite my 50s Rock n’ Roll wedding being over, I still can’t quite take my eyes away from all things fifties-inspired… or turquoise… or rock n’ roll music memorabilia... So naturally I felt very compelled to share this poster in its heavily-photoshopped glory. Just so you know, these girls here are the performers this year and Vh1 has launched a “Salute the Troops Photo Mosaic.” using Facebook Connect. For every picture you submit to the mosaic, VH1 will donate $1 to the USO’s Operation Enduring Care. And if you want to find out more, just head over to their website here.

I wondered why Kathy Griffin – the Divas Host, does not have her picture on the poster, I want to see her with those flirty curls and ultra red lips too! And then, I found it:

Stunning huh!

bridal gloves for sale!

Happily ever after begins here... behind lots of aircon units and in a pair of GLOVES!

I guess I’m the impulsive type. I get this idea in my head and almost immediately I want to have it in my hands, or over my hands literally in this case. I had wanted to have those long over-the-elbows opera gloves together with my dress, you know, something like this…

… when even eating a take-away croissant looks glamorous? Realistically speaking, I knew I wouldn’t look like that when first of all, my flabby arms will just look like a blob of jelly with a pair of opera gloves eating away that much length off my arms. But that doesn’t stop me from getting one anyways! And so I got these.

I had gotten this pair of gorgeous gloves from Etsy. According to the seller (whom is the best, by the way), this is a pair of vintage gloves which has never been worn yet and therefore is in its original packaging. Comes with 3 pearls attached at each wrist, which I absolutely love. The colour is a luscious cream. Package says made in USA and fits all size, I must have very fat arms and fingers because I just couldn’t get them in! I decided that measuring the gloves is not a very good and accurate way of telling the size, but it’s the best way I could think of.

Diameter (laid flat)

– at the opening: 4.5 inches

– across the palm at the base of the fingers: 2.5 inches

– across the wrist: 2.75 inches

Length of finger (middle): 2.75 inches

Length of gloves: 22.5 inches measured from tip of middle finger to end. It’s an opera glove so it goes all the way past the elbows like the one Audrey Hepburn has on.

I would say this fits a size S.

Following the distress of discovering my hands are bigger than an American-sized “fits-all” sizing, I went ahead and got another from a local shop.

This one is pure white and fits beautifully, alas, when I make another visit to my seamstress, I discover the colour is way off. I actually got a swab of the fabric sample before, why the hell didn’t I compare it with the gloves before I make the purchase? Anyways, learn from my lesson and carry as much fabric samples and/or your inspiration scrapbook whenever and wherever you’re doing your bridal shopping.

This pair of gloves is just perfect for our local climate because the material is light and cooling. It’s made of a stretchy satiny material and ends just before the elbows. It is also perfect for adding additional personal details such as lace, pearls or cute little bows.

Diameter (laid flat)

– at the opening: 4 inches

– across the palm at the base of the fingers: 3.5 inches

– across the wrist: 3.5 inches

Length of finger (middle): 3 inches

Length of gloves: close to 16 inches.

Like the one above, this one has never been worn before, except when I opened it to try them on. Condition is excellent. I still feel a pang of heartache when I see these pairs of beautiful gloves just lying around without a proper owner to show them off, so I’m selling them off at a fraction of the price I got them for. Both of them are going for just US$9 each, excluding shipping. Please drop me a comment if you’re interested, stating if you’d like the cream or white one and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible!

Lastly, may I bring your attention back to my photo at the top of this post. Notice the hair fascinator? I’m thinking of making a simple tutorial of how I made that, along with the birdcage veil I had. Tell me what you think!

things I learnt about us in the 50s from the national museum

One day, I went to the National Museum.

It’s been ages since I stepped into the National Museum. I hardly remember how it looked like back in the days when the National Library next door was still around. I still couldn’t believe that tore down that nice building for a short tunnel that has the same start and end point as the road beside it.

The creepy blue dolls on a bench fixture is still there though. Rumor has it they walked in the night.

“Make your lips kissable” – now that never grows old.. while they gave a whole article on it, I’ll give you 8 words: Exfoliate with your toothbrush and get a lipbalm!

classic perfection

Like every good man, I strive for perfection, and, like every ordinary man,

I have found that perfection is out of reach – but not the perfect suit.

~Edward Tivnan

From Canali Spring 2011 Collection. Modern suits with a 50s, 60s edge.

I like how the trousers hug the ankles and the pompadour hairstyle, even though, unflattering to say the least, reminds me of Johnny Bravo. But I like how it complements the suit anyhow.

veil you be mine?

‚ÄúStrangely enough, this is the past that somebody in the future is longing to go back to‚ÄĚ – Ashleigh Brilliant

Have you ever wondered why the grass is always greener on the other side and that when you’re doing Task A, you long to do Task B. And when Task B is at hand, Task A seems more attractive.

Somewhere today, I was having this moment. And I’m pretty sure I’ll have one of these episodes again in the ‘morrow. Well, I shan’t attempt to answer this perpetual dissatisfaction of Mankind nor elaborate on how Procrastination may be the direct result of this dilemma. I suspect I won’t do a good job at that nor are you interested to delve into, this being my wedding blog and all.

How about some hairdos? I have been hating my hair recently that I can’t help but let my thoughts dribble itself to some pretty hairdos. Timing seems about right, I just contacted a Hair and Makeup Artist, Gin Tan, it’s been long overdue… Please, Gin, please block the date for me? pretty please??
